Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager – Sourcing & Purchase to lead strategic sourcing and procurement activities across mechanical and electronic components.
The role will be responsible for supplier development, costing, cost optimization, commercial negotiations, vendor performance, localization, procurement planning, alternate supplier development, and ensuring timely availability of components in line with production and business requirements.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in the Automotive / EV / Tier-1 / OEM ecosystem, with hands-on exposure to Mechanical Sourcing, Costing, and Vendor Development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Lead end-to-end sourcing and procurement of mechanical and electronic components.
- Develop sourcing strategies aligned with cost, quality, delivery, and business requirements.
- Manage RFQs, RFPs, supplier quotations, techno-commercial evaluations, and supplier finalization.
- Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard suppliers for new and existing products.
- Negotiate pricing, tooling cost, MOQ, lead time, payment terms, and commercial conditions.
- Ensure timely sourcing support for production, NPI, prototype, pilot, and development requirements.
- Develop alternate suppliers for critical and single-source components.
- Track supplier capacity, availability, market trends, and supply-chain risks.
2. Mechanical Component Sourcing
Manage sourcing and supplier development across categories such as:
- Sheet metal components
- CNC-machined components
- Turned and precision parts
- Plastic injection-molded parts
- Fabricated components
- Die casting / casting
- Aluminium and metal enclosures
- Fasteners and hardware
- Brackets and structural parts
- Heat sinks
- Automotive mechanical assemblies
Responsibilities will include:
- Identifying and developing suitable suppliers.
- Evaluating supplier manufacturing capability, quality systems, capacity, and commercial competitiveness.
- Reviewing engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Supporting tooling development and component development.
- Coordinating prototype, sample, pilot, and production-part development.
- Driving localization and alternate-vendor development.
3. Costing & Cost Optimization
- Perform BOM costing and supplier quotation analysis.
- Conduct should-cost analysis, cost-breakdown analysis, and price benchmarking.
- Evaluate cost elements including raw material, machining, tooling, labour, cycle time, surface treatment, scrap, packaging, and logistics.
- Review supplier price-increase requests and validate commercial justification.
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives through:
- Alternate sourcing
- Localization
- Value engineering
- Supplier negotiation
- Process improvement
- Design optimization
- Track cost savings and commercial improvements.
4. Vendor Development & Supplier Management
- Identify, evaluate, qualify, onboard, and develop new suppliers.
- Conduct supplier capability assessments.
- Evaluate suppliers on Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Service parameters.
- Develop alternate vendors for critical components.
- Drive supplier improvement plans and closure of identified gaps.
- Manage supplier escalations related to cost, quality, delivery, and capacity.
- Build strong and performance-oriented supplier relationships.
5. Supplier Quality & NPI Support
- Support supplier audits in coordination with Quality and Engineering teams.
- Support APQP and PPAP activities.
- Work closely with Engineering and NPI teams during new-product development.
- Support prototype, validation, pilot, and mass-production requirements.
- Coordinate supplier readiness for new-product launches.
- Support engineering changes and implementation of revised components.
6. Electronics Sourcing
Support sourcing activities across categories such as:
- PCB / PCBA
- Electronic components
- Wiring harnesses
- Connectors
- Sensors
- Controllers
- Displays
- Electrical and electronic assemblies
Responsibilities will include supplier identification, RFQ management, commercial negotiation, cost optimization, alternate sourcing, and supplier-performance monitoring.
7. Purchase & Supply Planning
- Coordinate procurement plans with production forecasts and material requirements.
- Ensure purchase orders are released accurately and on time.
- Monitor supplier production and delivery schedules.
- Work closely with Planning, Stores, Production, Quality, and Finance teams.
- Proactively address shortages and supply risks.
- Support inventory optimization and reduction of excess or obsolete stock.
8. Commercial & Contract Management
- Review purchase orders, supplier agreements, contracts, NDAs, and commercial documents.
- Negotiate payment terms, MOQ, lead time, tooling amortization, and other commercial terms.
- Maintain price history and commercial records.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with sourcing and procurement processes.
9. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, NPI, Planning, Finance, Stores, and Supply Chain teams.
- Support value-engineering and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Coordinate supplier-development and localization projects.
- Provide regular updates on sourcing status, cost savings, supplier performance, risks, and material availability.
10. Team Management
- Guide and support sourcing and purchase team members.
- Allocate categories and responsibilities within the team.
- Review sourcing activities and procurement KPIs.
- Build strong sourcing processes and governance.
- Drive accountability, timely execution, and continuous improvement within the team.
Required Technical Competencies
- Strong experience in mechanical component sourcing.
- Strong hands-on experience in Sourcing, Costing, and Vendor Development.
- Good understanding of sheet metal, machining, plastics, fabrication, die casting, fasteners, and mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and material specifications.
- Strong understanding of BOM costing, should-costing, price benchmarking, and cost-breakdown analysis.
- Experience in supplier identification, evaluation, qualification, and development.
- Strong RFQ and commercial negotiation skills.

Qualifications & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Electrical, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain, Operations, or Procurement will be an added advantage.
- 7–9 years of relevant experience in sourcing, procurement, purchase, or supply-chain functions.
- Mandatory hands-on experience in Mechanical Sourcing, Costing, and Vendor Development.
- Strong exposure to sheet metal, machining, plastics, fabrication, die casting/casting, fasteners, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies.
- Strong experience in supplier costing, cost-breakdown analysis, should-costing, and commercial negotiation.
- Proven experience in supplier identification, evaluation, onboarding, and development.
- Experience in Automotive, EV, OEM, Tier-1, auto-component, or high-volume manufacturing organizations will be preferred.
- Experience supporting NPI and mass-production requirements.
- Exposure to electronic component sourcing will be an added advantage.
